Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. These traits were natural for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin - Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons was a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and loved playing sporting games. The combination of this naturally-born interest with her ability to perform was impressive. In the end, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for dramatic and acting in her country of birth. In the age of 14, she had been accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
